Peaking Power
Signalta Power owns and operates four natural gas fired power generation facilities in Southern Alberta. Each facility is a peaking generation plant that capitalizes on the difference between the price of natural gas and that of power, running only when it is economically viable (generally during peak daylight hours).
Three of these four peaking plants qualify for and supply ancillary services to AESO. The fuel for all four facilities is taken from the TransCanada Pipeline system.
We took on the peaker power business and aggressively figured things out, resulting in:
Significant improvement on predecessor’s operations;
Reduced costs by 25% —eliminated white glove personnel and inventory space and parts;
Profitable amidst the worst pricing environment in 20 years;
Motivated independent operators that run the machinery.
